Find a new job in 2017

Start the year as you mean to go on and strive to find a new job in 2017! Don’t take any notice of those who say the New Year isn’t the right time to find a new job; if the time is right for you…then it’s the right time!

Pros and cons of a New Year job search

There are those who suggest that it’s a bad time to look for a new job at the beginning of the New Year with recruiters and hirers returning after the Christmas break to a pile of paperwork and emails. The argument is that it’s easier for your CV to slip through the net or just get lost in the melee.
On the flip side the counter argument is that January is a great time to start a job search as it will show positive intentions and coincide with recruitment budgets and plans being put into place for the working year ahead.

However, the truth probably lies a lot closer to home. The best time to look for a new job is when you feel the time is right. After all, who knows when the right job is about to appear? And if it does, you need to be ready to act whatever the time of year.

Start 2017 positively

If the Christmas break has given you time and impetus to think positively about your future then why waste the feeling? Maybe you’ve been thinking about a move for some time and the dawn of a new year has given you the push you’ve been waiting for to find a new job in 2017?
Whatever the reason, take advantage of any positivity cursing through your veins and use this as momentum to set you on your way. Psychologically you can use this to your advantage in order to focus your efforts towards your goal. You’ll also give yourself a head start on lots of other job seekers too.

It’s a new start for everyone

January can also be the start of new things for many businesses and decision makers too. Often new strategies will kick off at this time of year maybe leading to new positions being created or becoming available. Having a positive outlook with regard to change will mark you out as being serious about your development. With anything in life, it’s often as simple as being in the right place at the right time.

Even if exactly what you want to do isn’t available immediately, you can still start your preparations. Begin by updating your CV or LinkedIn profile. You could also look to identify work areas that interest you and match these to companies that may be applicable. Prepare a schedule for applications and set targets. It may be that in identifying areas of interest that you uncover skills requirements that might benefit from some training. You could look to arrange a course to help you attain the qualities you need.
