Dementia Action Week

This week marks Dementia Action Week, an awareness-raising campaign created by Alzheimer’s Society. Each year, the society collaborates with various individuals and businesses across the UK to educate people about dementia and provide guidance for those who suspect they may be exhibiting symptoms.

At Owen Payne Care, dementia holds significant importance to us. One of our consultants, Michael, has personal experience with dementia, having cared for his beloved Grandad who was diagnosed with the condition, and also working within the care industry to support individuals with similar symptoms.

Dementia incorporates a range of symptoms that can progressively impact memory, language, and behaviour. Its effects vary depending on the individual’s stage and the type of dementia. The reasons behind the development of dementia symptoms are not always clear, and it is concerning that 1 in 3 people in the UK live with dementia without a diagnosis, while approximately 900,000 people in the UK are currently living with dementia.

Dementia not only affects those diagnosed with the condition, but also has a profound impact on their caregivers, family, and friends. It is crucial to recognize and appreciate the dedication and support provided by caregivers, who often go unrecognized for their hard work.

Let’s demonstrate our support for individuals living with dementia, those undergoing diagnosis, and all the caregivers, family members, and friends who are part of their support network.
